League Rules


League Rules U4, U5 and U6 PRINT Print

1. Playing time for each game will consist of four 8 minute quarters with a 2
minute break between quarters and a 5 minute half time break.

2. Ball Size-3

3. Players on the field will be 3 from each team-3v3. No goalkeepers.

4. Player substitution will be made at quarter break or in the case of injury.

5. Players are not allowed to stand inside the designated goal box (arc). A
player may move into the goal box once the ball is played into the goal box
area.

6. All free kicks will be indirect and opponents must be 4 yards away before
the kick is allowed.

7. Out of bounds play will be restarted with a kick in from the touch line.
Opponents must be 4 yards away from the ball.

8. Goal kicks and corner kicks are allowed. Opponents must be 4 yards away
from the ball. Goal kicks should be taken from the corner of the penalty
box closest to where the ball crossed the goal line.

9. Coaches will be on the field directing the game (no referees).

10. Player participation-Each player must play one half of every game. It is the
coach’s responsibility to ensure each player receives this opportunity.

11. Non-competitive age group. No official score is kept and rules are modified
to encourage free play for young players.

12. Shin guards are required. Soccer cleats are encouraged but players may
play in tennis shoes. Baseball/softball cleats with a toe cleat are not
allowed.

13. Participation awards are given to every player at the end of the spring
season.


League Rules U7 and U8 Print

1. Playing time for each game will consist of four 10 minute quarters with a 2
minute break between quarters and a 5 minute half time break.

2. Ball Size-3.

3. Players on the field will be 5 from each team- 5v5 with a Goalkeeper.

4. No player may play Goalkeeper more than one quarter.

5. Player substitution will be made at quarter break or in the case of injury.

6. All free kicks will be indirect and opponents must be 6 yards away before
the kick is allowed.

7. Out of bounds play will be restarted with a throw in from the touch line.
Two opportunities will be allowed to correctly throw the ball in.

8. Goal kicks allowed. Opponents must be 6 yards away from the ball.

9. Corner kicks awarded and opponents must be 6 yards away from the ball.

10. Player participation-Each player must play one half of every game. It is the
coach’s responsibility to ensure each player receives this opportunity.

11. Non-competitive age group. No official score is kept and rules are modified
to encourage free play for young players. U7-U8 games are officiated by a
licensed USSF referee and coaches are not allowed onto the field of play.

12. Shin guards are required. Soccer cleats are encouraged but players may
play in tennis shoes. Baseball/softball cleats with a toe cleat are not
allowed.

14. All spectators must limit themselves to the area across from their team bench
and a minimum of 3 meters from the touchline. Fans may not position themselves
behind the goal line. In all cases, the referee will be the final judge on positioning
of the fans in accordance with USSF and MYSO policy.


League Rules U10 and U12 Print 

1. Playing time for each game will consist of four 12 minute quarters (U10)
and four 15 minute quarters (U12) with a 2 minute break between quarters
and a 5 minute half time break.

2. Ball Size-4.

3. Players on the field will be 6 from each team for U10-6v6 with goalkeepers
and 8 from each team for U12-8v8 with goalkeepers.

4. Player substitution will be made at quarter breaks or in the case of injury.

5. Free kicks will be direct or indirect as indicated by the referee and
opponents must be 8 yards away before the kick is allowed. Goal kicks
and corner kicks conform to FIFA with the exception that opponents are 8
yards from the ball until it is in play.

6. Out of bounds play will be restarted with a throw in from the touch line.

7. Offside rule will apply.

8. A goal keeper may not score directly by punting or kicking the ball from
his/her goal area into the opponent’s goal. Balls played from the
goalkeeper must be touched by another player on the field in order to
score.

9. Player participation-Each player must play one half of every game. It is the
coach’s responsibility to ensure each player receives this opportunity. A
coach may limit playing time due to disciplinary reasons with the approval
of the league director and notification made to the parent as well as the
referee.

10. Official score is kept for league standings and all games are officiated by a
licensed USSF referee.

11. Shin guards and soccer cleats are required. Baseball/softball cleats with a
toe cleat are not allowed.

12. 1st and 2nd place awards are given to the top two teams in each age/gender
division.

13. All spectators must limit themselves to the area across from their team bench
and a minimum of 3 meters from the touchline. Fans may not position themselves
behind the goal line. In all cases, the referee will be the final judge on positioning
of the fans in accordance with USSF and MYSO policy.
